TROUP: EXTRA PLAYER MAKES USA EVEN STRONGER

TROUP: EXTRA PLAYER MAKES USA EVEN STRONGER

October 14th, 2020

Kyle Troup believes the increase to five-player teams for this year’s BetVictor Weber Cup will only serve to make defending champions Team USA even stronger ahead of next week’s annual transatlantic tenpin tussle at Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

Troup is set to make his fifth appearance at the BetVictor Weber Cup this year and was named MVP as USA won back the trophy from Europe in 2018. The Stars & Stripes retained their title in Las Vegas last year and are now looking to make it a three-peat on the famous Weber Cup lane.

This year, teams revert to five players per side, and Troup believes the additional bowler will help USA more than it will assist Europe. Bill O’Neill and EJ Tackett return to the American roster this year, adding a combined 25 PBA Tour titles to a team which also includes Anthony Simonsen and captain Chris Barnes.

“I feel like it will give the advantage to Team USA,” said Troup. “I am looking forward to it, it probably adds a different feel, at least in the Baker games, and it will make it even more interesting with even more possibilities.

“No jabs to the guys added on but I feel that the extra player we were able to add on over Europe might give us a little bit of an advantage, just because we have five guys now instead of four and we’ve been putting the beating on them the last couple of times, and we get to bring in one of the best bowlers in the world to add to the team.

“It takes a team effort to win the Weber Cup and now we have a core group and we have added some good players along the way over the years. EJ has been wanting redemption from his one appearance at the Weber Cup, so we will see a lot of hunger from EJ.”

The BetVictor Weber Cup takes place from Monday, October 19 until Wednesday, October 21 behind closed doors at Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
