PALERMAA – FAST START CRUCIAL AT BETVICTOR WEBER CUP

PALERMAA – FAST START CRUCIAL AT BETVICTOR WEBER CUP

October 15th, 2020

Osku Palermaa believes a fast start is essential if Team Europe are to recapture the BetVictor Weber Cup from Team USA next week, live on Sky Sports, DAZN and Matchroom.Live.

Palermaa returned to the European line-up last year after a four-year absence but couldn’t help Dominic Barrett’s team to reclaim the Cup. After 4-4 opening session, USA won six of the eight matches in session two, opening up an unassailable lead.

Five-time PBA Tour winner Palermaa believes that’s what cost his team last year, in a BetVictor Weber Cup which was an evenly-fought battle aside from that one session.

“Personally, and we as a team, had a terrible start last year and we almost still got there, so we just need to start a bit quicker this year and I am sure we will get the trophy back,” said Palermaa ahead of this year’s event, which begins on Monday, October 19.

“It is important to make a good start. Win or a have an even session in session one is important, if you trail by one you feel you have to get everything back and with this field it is hard to do. We have to do it frame-by-frame and do what we know we can do best.

“After the break we have had due to the pandemic, the hunger is so much bigger. I am sure there will be some nervousness on the pressure shots but it is so good to be on the lanes again. These are the moments you strive for, you do all the practice and you live for. When you get to perform them, and perform well, it is really high up there in moments for life.

“The event will definitely be different this year with the hard times we’ve had in the world. And my heart goes to all that have lost someone. We’ll come out of this stronger and use it as extra motivation.

“The Yanks have had their fun now, this year we’ll get the BetVictor Weber Cup back to where it belongs!”

The BetVictor Weber Cup takes place from Monday, October 19 until Wednesday, October 21 behind closed doors at Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
