Palermaa: Beating America In Vegas Would Be Best Weber Cup Yet

Palermaa: Beating America In Vegas Would Be Best Weber Cup Yet

June 13th, 2019

Osku Palermaa believes a Weber Cup win will feel better than ever if Europe can wrestle back the trophy from America on their home turf when the 20th annual transatlantic tenpin tussle takes place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas from June 18-21, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

The Finnish bowler will line up on Dom Barrett’s side for the first time since 2015 and says it feels great to be back on the team for ‘one of the best events of the year’.

Palermaa will be making his seventh Weber Cup appearance next week and is bidding for a fourth success as Europe aim to win back the famous trophy after America took the glory in England last summer.

The five-time PBA Tour winner says it feels great to have been selected to represent his continent again and believes winning the Weber Cup in America will be even more satisfying than the home wins he has previously enjoyed.

“It’s great to be back at the Weber Cup,” said Palermaa. “It’s one of the best, if not the best, events of the year. You get to bowl for your continent in a great atmosphere and with great teammates.

“Obviously it means a lot to be back on the team and nobody wants to let down their country let alone their continent. The US got to have their fun last year, now it’s time to bring it back, and it’s going to feel even better doing it on their home turf.

“We have a great blend of styles and personalities. We’ve travelled and bowled together a lot and know each other very well and work great as a team. Dom, Stu and Jesper don’t really need help, they’re great as it is, but bringing in a Finn never hurts – I’ll bring in a few extra revs as well!”

Palermaa joins captain Barrett, Jesper Svensson and Stuart Williams on the European squad, while Chris Barnes leads Team USA with Kyle Troup, Anthony Simonsen and rookie Jakob Butturff completing the American roster.

The 2019 Weber Cup takes place at Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas this June 18-21 and is sponsored by Storm, the Official Bowling Partner of the Weber Cup.

Tickets are on sale now at www.webercup.com. The Weber Cup will be broadcast live globally, including on Sky Sports in the UK, DAZN in America, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Japan and Viasat in Scandinavia.
