Unchanged USA set for Weber Cup #8 - 31/08/2012

AFTER A DRAMATIC 17-15 win at last year’s Weber Cup, the Americans will be fielding an unchanged team as the 13th annual transatlantic tenpin tussle takes place from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th October at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Last October, Europe held the lead over the first two days of the competition but Team USA mounted a stirring comeback over the final day to pip Europe and claim their seventh Weber Cup title.

Chris Barnes will once again captain the side that will consist of Mike Fagan, Bill O’Neill and Tommy Jones.

For the eighth consecutive year, all the action will be taking place at the Barnsley Metrodome within the specially constructed 500 seat arena. The Weber Cup is the tenpin bowling version of golf’s Ryder Cup as two four-man teams from Europe and the USA compete over three days in a series of singles, doubles and baker format matches.

For the Europeans, whom trail 5-7 overall in Weber Cup matches, there is one change as Stuart Williams comes in for Paul Moor. Once again the captain will be Finland’s Osku Palermaa and he will be joined by countryman Mika Koivuniemi and England’s Dominic Barrett.

The Weber Cup will be staged over five sessions – 7.00pm Friday and 1.00pm and 6.00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available from info@matchroom.com

The tournament will be produced by Matchroom Sport television and subsequently broadcast on Sky Sports as 18 x one hour programmes as well as by various stations around the world.
