2011 PartyPoker.com Weber Cup set for October - 24/08/2011

MATCHROOM SPORT are delighted to announce the details for the 12th annual PartyPoker.com Weber Cup, which again takes place once again at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Defending champions Europe will be fielding an unchanged side from the team that won 17-13 last year and will be looking for a hat-trick of wins.

They will also be looking to square the series as they trail overall 6-5 to the Americans.

The PartyPoker.com Weber Cup, which will be staged from Friday, October 14 to Sunday, October 16, is the tenpin bowling version of golf’s Ryder Cup as two four-man teams from Europe and the USA do battle over three days in a series of singles, doubles and baker format matches.

The Metrodome in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has successfully hosted this competition since 2005 and has established itself as a hugely successful venue for major league televised bowling.

America sport two changes to the team that lost last year – Chris Barnes and Tommy Jones return and are joined by USBC Team USA colleagues Bill O’Neill and Mike Fagan.

The Weber Cup will be staged over five sessions – Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon and evening. Tickets are available from Matchroom Sport by e-mailing info@matchroom.com.

All the action will be produced by Matchroom Sport television and subsequently broadcast on Sky Sports as 18 x one hour programmes as well as various stations around the world.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are once again proud to staging this epic confrontation between two great sporting teams and the atmosphere generated by the crowds at the Metrodome make this the most exciting bowling tournament in the world.

“America has two changes to the side that lost last year – out go Tim Mack after many fantastic performances in the Weber Cup, and Pete Weber. They will be replaced by Team USA members Bill O’Neil and Mike Fagan, so it will be interesting to see how these two adapt to the atmosphere and format.

“The Europeans looked strong last year and with the same team in action, this one looks like going right down to the wire.”
